waiting out the season

i keep opening this browser tab, typing into the entry box, closing the tab, closing the laptop, walking away.

i get the kids to their activities on time. i make their meals and snacks. parts of the house are relatively clean. sometimes, i manage to get outside for a run in the evenings, after dark. there's no safety net, don't look down.

reading: don't look at me like that, by diana athill. i felt like i must've read this book before, and i was troubled by how thoroughly it had escaped my memory. as it turns out, i had actually read a different book in which the same horrible warm woolly wartime underwear were a signifier of the protagonist's unpopularity at boarding school.
listening to: highway noises. when it is cold and there is snow on the ground, it sounds like I95 must run through through our backyard.
working on: de-cluttering and re-cluttering my bureau and closet. so it goes.
in the garden: still the occasional turnip and winter radish. i love this winter garden.
