waiting for the waiting's sake.
as it is the shortest day of the year, it is now time to string christmas lights across the front of the house. canada geese fly overhead in v formation, hurried along by little gusts of wind. why rush the season? time moves fast enough as it is.

reading: "the shortest day," by susan cooper. the children value this tradition in our family, which - like them - is very young.
listening to: the windham hill winter's solstice compilation. to me, this feels like childhood.
working on: cleaning, disinfecting, and laundry, as my youngest was sick in the night.
in the garden: we are enjoying the beauty of winter radishes. next year, i will make cold tunnels and these will be better yet.
