first kindergarten sick day

the problem is

when the children

need tending

and the clothes are washed

and dried

and folded

and put away

nobody can tell

what the hell

it was you did all day.

reading: an article in the new yorker, by ed caesar. in their mid-thirties, he and his wife left their kids with their grandmother, traveled with friends to ibiza, and discovered a love for house music. momentarily, i feel imploded with envy. imagine having someone to watch the kids. travel aside, imagine ever seeing your friends.
listening to: the dwarfs of east agouza - bes.
working on: undoing thirty years of shoddy upkeep and shady repairs inflicted on our upstairs bathroom. so many tiny grout lines, and so little visible difference between the after and the before. one supposes a job well done must be its own reward.
in the garden: the goldenrod is so beautiful. a lean budget means i won't be updating my plantings for yet another year.
