summer things.

the neighbors are home from their cruise vacation, and i just hate it. i hate the smells of whatever they're smoking, their laundry fragrance boosters, their pesticides and herbicides and fertilizers. all their noisy fucking gas-powered gadgets, the way their back yard lights up at night like prisoners just escaped from alcatraz.

i just don't want to live in a neighborhood. never wanted this.

the best things about summer are the berries we share with the birds. tomatoes off the vine - the more eccentric the better. cicadas droning in the trees, four species of backyard fireflies. chanterelles so thick on the ground we can find them by their smell. mounds of mountain mint, clouds of pollinators.

my daughter cries when i drop her off at soccer camp. our cat is sick, poor little buddy. i contend with a kidney stone and can't do much for a few days. and yet.

i can't say i'm having a bad time.

reading: dungeon meshi, a recommendation from an old friend. it's charming!
listening to: i like to sleep with my windows open on hot nights, so i can hear the insect choir.
working on: digging myself out from under a week of not doing much.
in the garden: there's just so wonderfully much. so much muchness.
