a hawk over the highway

the black river looks a week into the future. there, the leaves have turned all the autumn colors while the rest of the world is still green. next week, the branches will be stark and bare.

on the back porch in the morning, we wear fingerless gloves and cradle mugs of hot tea in our two hands. later in the afternoon, it will be much too warm for a sweater.
