how did you survive the frost/ knowing the book would close

carried along by a lambent happiness, i ran from campus through the sculpture garden and on to the state park. there was slanting late-afternoon sunlight and passionflower and kudzu and a riot of feral roses.

later, i played pale saints and made tortilla soup in a darkened kitchen.

i've got little to show for the past ten years besides a lack of things. time bled out through the damaged parts, leaving me older in your absence.

reading: hav, by jan morris.
listening to: throwing back the apple, pale saints.
working on: a little math puzzle.
in the garden: i am waiting to see if the hurricane lilies make a show.
